COUNSELING SERVICES OFFERED/THEORETICAL APPROACHES:
I provide counseling services to children, adolescents, adults and aging adults. My specialty areas include developmental issues ranging the lifespan; anger; depression and anxiety; issues related to trauma and abuse; managing stress and life transitions; and challenges related to parenting and family life. I have extensive training and research experience in aging adult care, in particular with individuals transitioning out of independent living and those with dementia.
I also have experience and training in experiential approaches that focus on how current feelings, belief systems, relationship patterns, and behaviors may have become barriers to your peace of mind and well-being. We will identify what is getting in the way of living the life you want and address those issues. It is a shared process designed to help you make the desired changes and live a more satisfying and healthy life.

With respect to specific training, I am trained in a variety of approaches including:

PROCESS OF THERAPY:
Participation in therapy can result in a number of benefits to you. These include improving your interpersonal relationships and resolution of the specific concerns that lead you to seek therapy. However, to achieve these results, therapy requires your active effort, involvement, honesty, and openness. Moreover, your ongoing feedback to me about your therapy, its progress, what works and what does not work for you is essential to ensure you get the most out of your treatment. You should know that there are risks associated with therapy. On occasion, symptoms get worse before they get better. There are no instant, painless, or passive courses, no “magic pills.” Instead, there may be homework assignments and exercises. Exploration of current challenges can lead to emotional discomfort or re-experiencing old hurts, losses, or sad events. Change may come fairly quickly for you; however, changing long-standing patterns often takes time. Making changes to these patterns requires dedication and effort on your part.

WHAT I TREAT:
I am dedicated to treating the whole person, not just a diagnosis. Some of the reasons people seek services include treatment and support for:
-
Healing from grief & trauma
-
Aging Adult Transitions
-
Cognitive Care (For clients with dementia)
-
Caregiver Support
